Jessica has not only lost her sheep, but whilst out trying to find them in the New Zealand Bush, she has now lost herself too. How can she protect her sheep, when she can’t even find them? Will anybody help her? Do you remember the way home? And who is that strange kid with the taniwha tail?

Jessica Bo Peep is full of fun characters, catchy tunes, valuable life lessons and did we mention a talking sheepdog named Goldfish and a rapping Pūkeko? We would love you to come and join us and help Jessica Bo Peep, locate her sheep!

The cast for this show are some of Wellington’s finest. Not to mention KidzStuff royalty and veterans. Amalia, Clare and Gareth just performed Jessica Bo Peep at the TSB Festival of Lights in New Plymouth and had a blast! They’re now, mega excited about bringing it to Wellington, for our April season. You may remember the three of them performing together, in ‘The Man whose Mother was a Pirate’ in 2019. Gareth and Amalia were both in ‘Badjelly the Witch’ in 2018. Clare and Gareth were in the original ‘Jessica Bo Peep’ in 2018 and Amalia will be stepping into the shoes of Jessica for the 2023 version. You may also remember Amalia from ‘Pirates vs Ninjas’ in 2022 and Thumbelina in 2020. KidzStuff are proud to have wonderful performers who keep wanting to come back and join in the fun with you, all over again.

Filled with fun songs, fantastic messages and great audience connection

Review by Deborah Rea with Luna Rama and Dev Rama 12th Apr 2023

Jessica Bo Peep has lost her sheep and we’re here to help her find them. Kidzstuff children’s theatre company brings back one of their classics, last performed in 2018.

Amalia Calder, Clare Kerrison, Gareth Tiopira-Waaka fill out our cast of farmers, rapping pukeko and taniwha (sort of). Kerrison’s Goldfish (a dog) welcomes the crowd asking for ear scratches and sending out a heart-felt chorus of “I wuv yoooo” to each and every mini audience member. Goldfish is a scene stealer and we don’t get enough of her in the show. Spin-off anyone?

The show is filled with fun songs, fantastic messages and great audience connection.

Kidzstuff are the only company who offer “lunchbox theatre” where kids can sit on the mat, move about as they need and are free to snack throughout from their lunchboxes. It’s a fantastic first introduction to theatre.

Over the past five years or so I’ve noticed an apparent reduction in the Kidzstuff show funding, which is a travesty. They create magic with limited set and costume. The show could probably do with an extra actor and they don’t have a director credited and, they’re still doing a fantastic job. Come on funding bodies, step up!

The show runs slightly long with some slower moments which will no doubt sort itself out post the Easter break.

There are plenty of opportunities to shout out “behind you”, to tattle on the baddies and you can jump up for a boogie at the end.

Dev Rama (aged 4):

A dog and a farmer lost their sheep. She met a taniwha and he tried to help. I liked the dog called Goldfish. I liked the game where they asked us to be sheep and tried to catch us. I liked helping Jessica and Taniwha hide.

People should come and play the catching sheep game.

Luna Rama (aged 6):

Jessica was trying to find her sheep. She lost herself and she lost her dog. She met a taniwha and they became friends. They met a pukeko but he thought the taniwha was trying to eat his eggs. The taniwha’s mum had the sheep but they got them back.

I liked the dog and the catching sheep game and I liked Jessica. It’s a fun show.
