In the heart of South Auckland, where the echoes of laughter and joy once filled the air, a somber tale unfolds. Koroseta is a theatre show that explores the labyrinth journey of grief after the sudden death of a loved one. Forced to face the music within a traditional Pasifika household, Koroseta seeks provocations from her ancestral lands to guide her use of poetry and music to reclaim emotional and mental agency in a space that does not welcome it.
Koroseta is a development and devised work in the format of live music/theatre. It follows a group of friends who have lost a loved one and are forced to look at their own adversities within their traditional Pasifika households where emotions are an unspoken part of our ecosystem that is daring to be explored.
Looking at how we move from tragedy and grief towards love and light, provocations from their ancestral lands will guide their use of poetry and music to acknowledge their heedless efforts to reclaim emotional and mental agency in a space that does not always welcome it.
Ultimately, breaking away from traditional Pasifika ways of using humour or sarcasm as a veneer, creating and making is an outlet for their growth, reclamation and becoming.
Basement Theatre, 19th March-23rd March, 6:30pm, Choose What You Pay ($8-$100).
