Macbeth Without the Shakespeare Bollocks

Fortune Theatre, Dunedin

15/03/2018 - 16/03/2018

Dunedin Fringe 2018

Production Details

Created and performed by Bruce Fummey
with a nod to William Shakespeare

Bruce’s comic observations probe deep into medieval Scotland. Shakespeare shamefully misrepresented a man who, in his time, was a popular Scottish king. His death, at the hands of Malcolm, led to Anglicisation of Scotland… and eventually ‘the English play’. ‘His research is deep, his timing is split second. His ad lib ability is amazing.’ (Scottish Daily Record).

‘An hour in the company of a delightful Scot… Take your brain to see him, he’ll put stuff in it, and you’ll feel the better for it.’ (Chortle.co.uk).

Audience quotes from this show at Edinburgh Fringe:

‘Laugh out loud funny, brilliantly delivered and a real grasp of the problems of relying on bloody Shakespeare for anything other than a night out in Stratford. Caution this show may be medically dangerous for Daily Mail reading Fifers with high blood pressure.’ (Richard Hardy)

‘Visited this for a tour through Scotland’s past. It was brilliant, Scottish history as it should be told, with humour and without all that English propaganda.’ (Michael Cormack)

‘Bruce’s usual standard. A funny, informative show featuring historical research and dick jokes. Superb.’ (Jason Harrison)

‘Intelligent, funny and educational show. Bruce has a quick wit and seems a really nice guy; this is a definite must see if you want something thought provoking and clever. 10/10’ (Lynn Foot)

Ticket price range $20, concession $18
