Mixing Drew is pushing boundaries.

Ever noticed that when you go to the theatre it’s all been decided for you? The casting, sets and story: beginning middle and end? Well this cast is having none of it.

The script is unplanned, the roles are unprepared, the set is even drawn on the walls in chalk, just in case someone wants to change it, and the fate of the characters? Well they don’t know what to expect either.

All they really know is their central character: Drew Simple. A little odd— but in an endearing sort of way, Drew doesn’t get out much, and spends as much time as possible in clean and quiet environments. After life takes a series of unfortunate turns however, Drew is thrown head first into a nightmarish world of red-wine spills, people who wear sunglasses indoors, sexual advances, cousins who are not all that they seem, eccentric drug cartels, and dare we say it? True love.

What happens next? Well that’s up to you. The bare bones of the story stand as signposts alone as each night you, the audience, choose Drew’s gender and sexuality, you put words in Drew’s mouth, and you choose who will play the host of strange and hilarious characters that our hero (or indeed heroine) will encounter.

Coming from a mix of backgrounds, the team behind Mixing Drew is an established improvisation troupe, fresh from their success in Stage Two’s 2010 season of ‘Stir Fried Plays’, they’re ready for more. Mixing Drew should be a play that’ll offer you something a little different, reduce you to tears (of laughter) and let you walk away with night to remember.

Ambitious? Narcissists that they are they think they’re up to it. What’s more, a couple of these narcissists would like you to know that they think you’re a wonderful person—and gorgeous. They also think Mixing Drew ‘… might just be one of the best, most imaginative pieces of theatre of all time.’ Well they were right about the first two things weren’t they? And after all, there’s only one way to find out.
