A sizzling giggle stick to wrap you laughing gear around

Review by Kathryn van Beek 26th Apr 2015

If you enjoy songs, sensuality and sexual innuendo, you’ll want to get up to the Q Theatre Loft to have burlesque madam and master manipulator Dr Love, AKA Penny Ashton, satisfy your desires.

The show opens when the hostess with the most chest takes to the stage in a pink lab coat. She gets the audience in the mood by promising “sex, sizzle and hot wax on nipples… with a focus on the silly, fun things that get people off.”

She strips her coat to reveal a corset and petticoats, and then thrusts into the first song of the evening: a take on ‘Dirty Deeds’, complete with dirty dance moves, that leaves you in no doubt that you’re in for a raunchy night.

The show covers the ins and outs of the history of sex, particularly the inner workings of porn, fetishes, B&D and prostitution. Along the way there are blue movie re-enactments, penetrating sex facts, stripping, a reading from 50 Shades of Grey and a quiz that’s right on the button.

Ashton uses her oral skills to re-appropriate ‘It’s Raining Men’ and turns ‘My Favourite Things’ into a litany of fetishes that increase in salaciousness as the song climaxes.

Seven Days comedian Dai Henwood makes a guest appearance as the voice of a phone sex caller with a predilection for overalls and carbohydrates, and when we get near the pointy end of the show Ashton brings the entire audience to orgasm (well, kind of).

Wrap your laughing gear around the sizzling giggle stick that is Hot Pink Bits.
