Tauranga Arts Festival 2017

Production Details

On March 28, 1864, Henare Taratoa wrote to Sir George Grey outlining the code of conduct under which the Battle of Pukehinahina (Gate Pa) should ensue, and how both parties should conduct themselves during war.

The code was known as the ‘Rules of Engagement’, and this code is the inspiration for Ria Hall’s show and debut album.

A blazing female force in New Zealand music, Ria is free-thinking, edgy and unapologetic. Her sound fuses furious hip hop beats and richly layered vocals in English and Te Reo, creating an epic soundscape of many genres. The show and album will both touch on themes of love and war, revolution and change.

This special performance will see Ria accompanied live by Wellington three-piece powerhouse The Nudge, and also combining with award-winning artist Tracey Tawhiao to create a unique stage set.
