Phoebe Smith grew up in Ōtepoti doing drama classes at the Globe Theatre and performing both there and at The Playhouse. She then went on to study Theatre at Allen Hall, University of Otago, and continued to perform at various locations such as the erstwhile Fortune Theatre.

Phoebe began teaching children’s drama classes at Caroline Claver’s School of Dance and Theatre Arts as a teenager and after completing her degree moved to Te Whanga-nui-a-Tara where she performed at Bats theatre. She taught drama classes at Arts-a-go-go, where she also wrote the scripts for all the shows and co-directed with Rachel Main.

Phoebe has since returned to Ōtepoti where she is currently writing a play (though it is taking her a long time!)
